Ubuntu free operating system bootable live CD to rescue your photos and files incase Windows fails to start. Hmmmmm, important? yes, but not much fun. So what to do for this update? Make it all fun for the entire family. However, I sat thinking (I don't think well when I stand lol) what fun stuff could I add to this update. I decided to add a bunch of new thingys and also go back to an older update I did a while ago that I received emails about how much it was enjoyed.

Move down to the freebies to read more details about what this update has to offer.

1) The reprise part is Sign generators. I added new ones for this update.
2) Also I was sent from a reader from my web site an online card trick. Well, I went to it thinking I am not going to enjoy a card trick all that much, but when I did it I ended up doing it 20 times and I was amazed by it. It bothers me I can't figure out how it is done! So, I thought it might be fun to include it here on this update.
3) As always I include freeware sites for you to explore on your own. I kept Snapfiles listed on this update, but also added two new ones that are very good. Sourceforge Open Source Freeware. The other links are inspired for Back To School. 3 very good sites for educational software from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Many programs for teachers too.
4) The fourth segment of this update is also something I have done before on past updates: Free TV. This time I decided to make it as close to being able to watch regular TV (CBS, NBC, ABC, ABC family, News, etc.) So if you missed a show this week you can just go and see it online for free (legally). I even threw in a legal free movie site for fun too. If you go to these sites, and like them, bookmark them to your favorites and visit them often. Great to watch TV on your laptop when your not home!
5) I will call this segment the Program of the Month! (even though I don't do monthly updates lol). This program will convert any video, in any video format to what is called the 3GP video format. That is the format Cell phones that are capable of taking short videos use. Connect your phone to the computer with a cable you should have received with your phone if you have music capabilities (Plays MP3s, etc.), and you can copy the movie or video to your phone and watch when you are stuck in traffic (NOT DRIVING FAST LOL), or waiting somewhere with nothing to do and you are bored!

Fun Sign Generators

Sign generators need little comments by me, so you get spared a lot of my usual ramblings of details. Just go, type in your text, generate, and save (usually click your right mouse button and select Save Image As). Below are some new ones, and some I have had on updates before. Have fun.

Amazing online card trick!

If you do this, and figure out how it is done WRITE ME! lol. Here is the deal (No pun on the word deal). Don't use your mouse to point to the card of your choice. Just use your mind. The only thing your mouse is to do is to click the NEXT button. So pick a card and concentrate on it. Click the next button and repeat the card 3 times in your mind. Click NEXT for the last time, and the card you picked will not be in the lineup. I HATE CARD TRICKS! But I love this one.

Click here to help me figure out how it is done!

The below picture is just a picture. Please use the link to try the trick.

Snapfiles Free Programs

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

I am often asked where do I get or find these freebies (free programs or free services online). Well, I do tend to search for new ones all the time. However, each Monday of each week, even if I don't do updates on this site, I do to Snapfiles. Snapfiles has the best freeware of any site. So that is one of my secrets I am sharing with you. Just go to the above link, and on the upper right corner select FREEWARE. a list will load of so many categories you will be stunned. Want a free anti viruses program instead of paying each year? A free firewall? How about a free office suite? Maybe a free program to fix your registry? There are so many topics to choose from you will be stunned. All FREE, and more important... free of viruses, Trojans, malware, adware, spyware. Just free good programs. So before you go to the store to buy a program for your children for school, or for you, go to Snapfiles first and see if they have a program that can do what you need. With the money you save you can send me a Christmas Card! (or not).

Here is a partial screen shot of their site, Go see the whole thing!

Another great site for free programs in every category is Sourceforge. This is made up of entirely Open Source programs. This means people all over the world (The smart ones unlike me) contribute to add, and add, and add code to programs until the program is perfected. This is done by makeing the program code available to anyone to improve the program, then it is tested by pros to be deemed a completed software program. Some of the best free software is open source (Openoffice, The Gimp, Audacity, Ubuntu, etc.) If you need a program don't go to the store first. Check to see if Snapfiles, or Sourceforge has an alternative that does what you need... FREE!

Click here to go to Sourceforge and have fun exploring all the Freebies!

BACK TO SCHOOL educational freeware

This update falls in perfect wtih the timeline of BACK TO SCHOOL! Ahhhhh, My favorite time of year lol. So, I thought I would throw in a few links for educational software (Free of course). Be it math, geography, reading, etc. for all grades from K-12. For the younger children many are in the form of games, and they don't even realize they are learning while playing! Others are great lesson programs that challenge the student with it's own quizes. There are so many wonderful programs for education that if I had them when I was a kid, Maybe I'd have a real job! I had many programs like this for my son when he was in the earlier grades and I feel he benefited by them. Here are a few links to explore...

Click here to go to a good site for most subjetcs

Click here to go to a good site for teachers and student software

Click here to go to a great site for any type of freeware with a great education category

Free TV and Movies (Legal too!)

Picture this scenario: You are watching TV and there is nothing worth watching. Wouldn't it be nice to watch full episodes of your favorite TV shows, and legally too!? CSI, Scrubs, or whatever you like? When you want, and more than one. You may end up watching the entire season if you wish, all in one shot. I myself live by an unusual schedule. I sleep during the day, and I am awake all night (I use to be a Bat in a past life). I can't very well mow the lawn at 3:30 in the morning, so there are times I go to one of these links below and watch the last episode of one of my favorite shows. Each network has this available for free on their site. Bookmark these so they are around if you need a good show to watch. TIP: Most of these sites will show a 15 second commercial three times during the stream of the TV show. These commercials usually buffer slowly and are choppy, but the shows stream well.

Click here to go to CBS and then click on SHOWS on the upper left

Click here to go to NBC full episodes

Click here to go to ABC and move far down for full episodes

Click here to go to FOX and move far down for full episodes

Click here to go to Yahoo TV full episodes from Donna Reed to Reba

Click here to go to CW (what was WPIX) full episodes

Click here to go to SCI FI channels full episodes

Click here for Nicelodeons full episodes

Click here for TBS full episodes (Don't use Firefox browser here)

Click here for TNT full episodes

Click here for ABC FAMILY full episodes. (Site loads slow)

Click here for HGTV full episodes

Click here for HGTV full episodes

Click here for TVlands full episodes

Click here for TV and Movies (Legal too!) Hulu.com

Did I miss any channels? YES, I DID. However, you can google your favorite show followed by the words Full Episodes. Other things to keep in mind. I find some of these sites stream their shows great, while others are choppy (BUT FOR FREE WHAT'DYA WANT!) Some play better on Internet Explorer, while others play better on the Firefox browser (Which you should have if you don't). So, if one is not so good, try the other browser. Also I find that a freshly booted computer streams better. Not having loads of other programs running or loaded helps too. Please do not even try these links if you don't have Cable or DSL for your Internet. Dial ups just can't handle it. Also, if any site informs you that you need to download their player to view the site, it is generally OK to do so, and takes only a minute or so. Just do not download Zango if you are presented with that warning. Zango is full of adware that takes control of your computer. But, none of these links above deals with Zango, nor do the above links ask you to install their player files to view the site (other then I think one does, but it is ok to do so). ENJOY YOUR NEW COMPUTER TV!

Convert your PC videos and movies to be played on your phone!

OK, this will take a bit of explaining. If you have a mobile phone that has a video camera built in, you can use your phone as a little Mini DVD player! YES! YOU CAN! It isn't hard to do either, but my babbling of directions may make it seem more difficult then it is. Here we go...

First things first. You need a free program to convert any video file format on your computer to a 3gp file format that Cell phones use. This converter program is called MobileVideo for 3gp (horrible name for a program. It should be something short and cool lol). Once this program is installed we need to get you to step 2.

Step two is to start the program, find the movie or video you wish to convert and do so using the free program.

Step three is to hook up your phone to your computer. If you have a phone that is also an MP3 player, then you should have received a cable to hook up to the computer when you got your phone. With the phone connected to the computer it should pop up Windows Explorer file manager and you should see your phone listed on the left pane.

Step four is to simply find the converted movie or video and copy it into the video folder of your phone in Windows Explorer. EXAMPLE: On most Verizon phones that can do this the folder is called MY FLIX. Each Cell phone that can take short videos will have a similar folder by a different name.

That's it! So when you are bored at the Doctors office waiting an hour in the waiting room you can watch a movie, or whatever you converted. A great way is to rip a DVD to your computer, then convert it to 3gp. Or use videos you made yourself on your own CAM. I myself grab movies online and watch them on my phone (Before I sat on it and broke it! Sighhhhhhhhhhh).

So, what did I forget? OH, YES! THE PROGRAM! ...

Click here for the free video to 3gp converter

PS. If you don't like this program, google freeware video to 3gp converter and see if you would like another better.

Usually I include several free programs or sites for being productive, or just plain fun in my updates. This update is very different. Instead my update is only one topic. I decided to do this as just one topic being it lengthly. Next update at the end of August will return to a bunch of fun stuff for the entire family. If you can put up with all this reading it just may end up saving you from suffering a devastating loss of pictures you can't get back, music you spent so long downloading and lost, and more. So understand, this update is more of a heading off a disaster thingy. Read on to see what I am babbling about, and believe me, below there is lots more babbling, but again, I hope it is worth it for you.

This update began with me failing someone's request. Yes, failing!. I was asked if I knew of a way to salvage all important personal data from a computer that had crashed. Personal data such as family photos, music, documents, and more. The Geek squad charges over $200.00 to do such a task. At the time I searched I only found programs that were NOT free. I was very disapointed. Then a few months later my sister had a similar fate with her laptop. I took her laptop home and attempted to find a free way again. In my searching I stumbled on a way that seemed too simple. Too good to be true, and we all know that if something is too good to be true it usually isn't too good to begin with. I was however hopeful, and when it worked? I was amazed. I was able to save to a USB flash drive (those little things that look like keychains that are really portable hard drive sticks that cost about 6 bucks when on sale and about 24 bucks for huge 16 gigabyte ones). All her pictures, music, and even emails from her Outlook express were transferred to a flash drive within 5 minutes. Then I was able to restore her Windows XP to factory state. Normally one could kiss their data goodbye (unless you pay Geek Squaud). I was so excited I knew the moment it worked it would be the focus for this update.

WARNING: Well, more like a few tips then a warning... This is so easy, but when you see below all the details it will look horribly confusing and beyond what an average computer user can do. Don't be fooled. It truly is easy. The outcome is nothing more then placing a CD in your computer, starting your computer letting the CD load, going to the file manager, copying your files of choice to a flash drive. However, to do these easy steps you will need to make the CD, and know about what is loading to make it all come together. Hence, I go into details. So much detail, that you will think "OMG I can't do this!" or, "This is way beyond me!". I assure you it is just the way I write, but truly anyone can do this. If I was in front of you doing this, you would see it takes minutes to do, and it is only all this reading that takes forever! I advise everyone to make the CD using my instructions, and print this web site page to store with the CD. Then just leave it in a place you can find it if you ever need it.

DISCLAIMER: A great way to even avoid the need for this rescue CD is to back up (copy) your important files, be it music, photos or whatever once a month while your computer is working the way it should. That way you would never need this CD. A good rule of thumb is to get a more expensive flash drive with more memory (about 16 or 32 gigabytes) to put all your data of choice on. Or upload your photos to a free online photo album such as Flickr or Photobucket, and your music and any data you wish including photos to a free online hard drive (google: FREE ONLINE HARD DRIVE). Make sure you only use the free versions, and not the paid versions. You can even purchase an external hard drive that plugs into your computer, but that can be expensive. Flash drives are cheap, and online sites are free.

This will only work if: A) Your computer tries to start, but when loading Windows it stops B) On a totally crashed computer, your computer attempts to read the CD first before trying to load the boot sector from Bios. Meaning if it doesn't, the CD would never start, but most computers check the CD first. Bottom line? Back up now while your computer is OK. Or at least make this CD being this is free, and if it doesn't work for you, you didn't lose money.

Ubuntu rescue Disk

Before I get into it, here is the UBUNTU main web site, and the download link, along with a link on that web site for full documentation, along with a few screenshots. This is the latest release of UBUNTU as of April 2009, with new releases every 6 months.

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

Click here to go to their site and download it

Click here to go to their help site to read even more

UBUNTU is a complete FREE operating system running off the Linux platform. You can use it as a full operating system right from the CD without Installing it (In fact don't Install it). It runs all from within the CD never writing to your hard drive, or changing any configuration you have. Not only is it an operating system, but it has so many programs on it to do daily tasks. Even with a crashed computer you could still get online, write emails, documents, edit photos, even play games and so much more. It doesn't rely on Windows in any way, so it can do anything all on it's own. There are dozens, and dozens of programs contained on the disk as well. Whatever you can do in your Windows? You can do on Ubuntu. However, This update is not about that. It is about saving your important files when your computer isn't loading Windows.

Ubuntu is called a live CD (another name for a bootable disk). With using UBUNTU as a live CD, UBUNTU can start from the CD tray and save important files (Music, Documents, Photos, and Videos) in case Windows refuses to start and a PC factory restore is in the near future. This can save over $200.00 by having no need for The Geek Squad (BEST BUYS) saving your information. The other choice would be just to lose all information when doing a PC factory restore without being able to save anything before.

For using this CD as a rescue disk, DO NOT INSTALL, even though you will see an icon that says INSTALL. Just use it from the CD tray as it will load fully without installing.

There are several important steps in creating UBUNTU on a CD, and running it. Once you make a Ubuntu CD, you just use it. Meaning for the purpose of this update, much is about making the CD, and hoping your computer will start the CD. Using it is the easy part!

Ubuntu is one file that you download that is called a ISO image. This file can not be created on a CD by the CDs burners program choice of DATA or MAKE A BOOTABLE DISK. It must be burned as an ISO image. Some CD burning programs can do this. Many that come with a computer can not. This is not a problem. There is a incredibly small FREE program that downloads fast, and doesn't take up much room on your hard drive, that can do this. In fact it is the only thing this program does (burns an ISO image). With this FREE program, burning this one UBUNTU file to a blank CD takes about 2 minutes. The program is called FREE ISO BURNER, and doesn't have to be installed. Just download it to a folder you can find, go to that folder and click on it. Select RUN on the dialog box and it pops up. It will recognize your CD burner and all you do is browse to find the UBUNTU ISO file that you also downloaded to a folder you can find. The file will be called (or similar to) ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso. If your computer wants to extract the file (decompress it) don't. So first I advise downloading the following program.

Click here to get the program FREEISOBURNER and read more about it

If the problem is Windows will not start, but you do get your boot up screens you may have to set the choice BOOT FROM CD TRAY. (or however your computer may call this choice). You may not have to do this, so you could try to start Ubuntu without this step, but I include it here in case you need it. A full explanation of making your CD start before the normal bootup process for one time only without changing permanently the normal operation can be read at a great article at: CLICK HERE TO READ ARTICLE Again, this is a one time choice, the next time the computer is started it returns to normal boot up automatically (Unless you manually make it permanent)

You may wish to skip these steps and move down to the *****. Return to these steps in the event your Ubuntu CD doesn't start first.

Here is a short explanation of setting your computer to read from the CD first (You may not have to do this):
Using my DELL as an example, but each computer may look different, but will have the similar choices. When the Dell or other brand has it's boot up screen you may see a F2 and F12 choice. Select F12 = Boot Menu. Usually this goes by fast, so be ready to select what you need to.

On my Dell I would choose number 3 as below (The screenshot is from online and has number one chosen, but 3 is the proper choice for our example). On a computer other than Dell choose whatever has the CD-ROM on the list. After you ok this choice, you should see a choice to have this done once, or all the time. Select once.

restart the computer with UBUNTU in the CD tray

*****

You will be greeted as UBUNTU Loads with a UBUNTU screen. It may look a bit different than this screen shot as it was just a screen shot from online. Be patient. Loading an operating system from a CD may take a few minutes. We only want to get this thing up and running to copy your files, so speed is not important as we are not using it all the time.

You will then see a similar screen again, this time with an ID and password to be entered. Being we are not installing Ubuntu, none is needed. However, type anything in both boxes and press enter. Allow it to say ID and password failed, continue anyway? and select CONTINUE.

Below is the Ubuntu desktop that will load (it may look different then this example, but similar). You will notice it looks similar to a Windows Desktop, but there will only be two icons. DO NOT SELECT INSTALL. The other will be either My Folder, My Documents, File manager, or another name (unlike the picture below with EXAMPLES). Select whatever it is called on your Ubuntu desktop. You will also notice on top a menu. From here you can do anything. Select the vast amount of programs on the CD to get online, open a web site, write in a word processor, email, play games that are on the CD, edit photos, and so many more that are too much to list. But if you Google Ubuntu or Ubuntu desktop and select Google images you will see a vast amount of what this free operating system can do! Better yet, go to Youtube and type in Ubuntu. You will be amazed.

After you select the only icon other then the Install icon (which again do not select Install) the file manager will load. Now you can pop in your USB jump drive and UBUNTU will detect it. This screen shot does not show a USB, but copying important files can still be discussed here. Here is a link to a great 52 second youtube video on how to copy files to and from a USB jump drive in UBUNTU. In this video it is using the Kingston usb flash drive, hence the name Kingston in the file manager:

Youtube: How to copy files from Ubuntu to a USB stick

Again, while at Youtube, type in Ubuntu and see how amazing this operating system is and what it can do.

Here is a snapshot of the file manager in icon view, you can select Details as well if you wish.
For larger screen shot Please use my link on this blog for my web site.

In the File manager screenshot of the file manager your USB drive would be under PLACES on the left. Your Windows hard drive, where all your photos, music, and important files would be also under PLACES in the folder of FILE SYSTEM. We would click on FILE SYSTEM, and see the same folders you would see in Windows. Find your photos folder, and other folders you wish to copy. We would just select the folder and drag it over to the USB drive (view Youtbue video above). If the entire contents of the folder is not to be copied you could of course just open the folder and select many files to be copied, but doing the entire folder is faster then selecting various files in bulk or one at a time. You could also use the standard Edit menus up top with Copy and Paste, but sliding the folder to the USB under places is easier. Just make sure you purchased a big enough flash drive (also called jump drive). I have a 16 gig from Micro Center that cost me 24 bucks. Small price to pay to save all the photos of my son so I never lose them if my computer suffers a crash.

Your rescuing your important data is now complete. Simply by just clicking on a folder and sliding it over to the left onto the USB drive icon. If you needed to restore Windows to a factory like new state (Not system restore to a prior week or two), you are now ready to do so knowing all your important files are backed up so you can put them back into Windows when the restore is finished.

NOTE: If an email program such as Outlook Express, or Mozilla Thunderbird is used, you can also copy the emails folders and files where they are stored, along with the address book, and back them up to. Replacing the same folders after factory restore is done. Same goes for bookmarks and favorites. Google where these folders and files are stored so you can locate them easier. Usually you will find them in Documents and settings/user/application data/ blah blah blah, but googling will tell you exactly where to look.

Another Note: If you do have a Dell, you can do a restore without a restore disk, as Dells have a 7 minute restore to factory like new feature by clicking a key when starting your computer. Google that if you have a Dell or write me and I will email you how.

best to read about UBUNTU at their main site, or Google Ubuntu (google images), and even go to youtube and type in Ubuntu, but here is a small example of what is on the UBUNTU live CD...

Openoffice suite (A Microsoft Office free alternative) with word processor (word compatible), spreadsheets, presentation, html converter, and more. THE GIMP: a free Photoshop alternative an Outlook Express type of email program Games wireless catcher Firefox browser media viewers and so many more programs already on the CD you will be amazed how they all fit on it!.

You can use Ubuntu all the time if you wish, and not just as a rescue disk. If you wish to install Ubuntu as a secondary operating system, you must partition your hard drive first. Google Installing Ubuntu as a secondary operating system. This is much more technical then just running Ubuntu from the CD. DO NOT INSTALL UBUNTU WITHOUT PARTITIONING YOUR HARD DRIVE, as no two operating systems can operate at one time on the same partition. Although there is a Ubuntu version that can run with Windows at the same time to learn how to use it (google Run Ubuntu with Windows) to download it if you wish, but it has less applications on it and runs slow fighting Windows for resources.

MARTIN'S FREEWARE CORNER (new blog theme)

I have started several updates on this site going all the way back to August of 2007, but something always came up preventing me from completing each one. I have never been so busy then I have been in these past two years. What was so simple to do each month (updating the site) has become a struggle to do anything within a 24 hour day. I am sure many of you can relate to that. With that said, here is another attempt at updating this site. This time with a major change.

I started this site to help people discover what is free out there for their web sites. From HTML programs, hosting, web master programs, videos, graphics, logos, blah blah blah. The list is near endless. However, I began to also offer a few free programs that had nothing to do with HTML, or web site features. I began to be asked more about FREE programs for any body. Meaning those who are not interested in web sites. Those who just would love to find a free program for their son, or daughter to help with school work, or for someone who wanted to make their own MP3s from their CDs, Photo editors, and more. Or even where to watch free movies and TV shows. The requests for free programs, and free online services, have become more requested then anything concerning HTML, or web sites. All throughout this long drought of no update on this site, I still received emails requesting if I knew of a FREE program that could do what they needed. I would of course reply with one (or several to choose from).

Therefore, I have decided to alter this site. The content will shift from HTML, and Web site free features, to FREE programs and free online services - FOR ANYONE, ANY SUBJECT, ANY PROGRAM. In truth, I find it more fun. I will be supplying links to the best FREEWARE sites, as well as highlighting a free programs each update. Make no mistake though, I will continue to offer web site free features, but the focus will be on FREE software programs, and free fun online services.

Also allow me to make it clear what I mean by FREEWARE. As if that need be explained, but it does. Shareware is different. Shareware will either work for 30 days, then stop, or the program is not fully functional. I am talking about FREEWARE. Free, fully functional, no spyware, no adware, no viruses, no Trojans, no malware, just the program you want, or may be seeking.

I will be changing this web site template as time goes on. For now, it will stay the same, or near the same, but this update will be FREE programs, and FREE online services, NOT focusing on web sites. Just fun FREE stuff for you and your family.

I should also explain why anyone, or any company would want to offer their programs for free. Is there a catch? No. If there is a catch, I will not be offering it. There are many reasons why there are literally thousands of FREE programs in all subjects. Some companies may offer you their program for personal home use, hoping you will be impressed enough, and in the position to offer it to your company, where they would have to buy the commercial license. Some will offer a fully functional last years model, hoping you will want the new one. Some will ...well. just want you to have it. For instance. The best free Anti Virus program? FREE. It is AVG Anti Virus. Mcafee, and Nortons want you to purchase EACH YEAR! their product just so you can update them each year. AVG updates daily forever...FREE. The best media player? Winamp! BY FAR THE BEST! Play your CDs, MP3s, Watch TV, Listen to Internet radio. It does so much! And sounds GREAT! Photoshop costs over 700 bucks! But the best photo editor? THE GIMP! Does everything Photoshop can do... and yes... FREE! The list is endless, and I will be making many highlighted FREE programs known to you, and I will also tell you the best FREEWARE sites to get anything you need, or want.

Having said all this... It is time to get started. I hope you enjoy this new format. I feel if you just use one free program that you need instead of buying it at a store, you have saved money, and I feel rewarded you did. Oh, and by the way, I should make a statement that sounds legal lol... "I, Martin O'Sullivan, in no way am paid by any company that offers free software to sway you into using one. (Oh how I wish I was haaaaaa)". Hmmmmmmmm, I should also continue with this line of legal sounding stuff... "If you choose to use any FREEWARE program that you found on this site, I, Martin O'Sullivan, am not responsible if your spouse leaves you, your pets hate you, your car died, and if your computer was negatively affected". I have used over 600 freeware programs to date (testing them over the course of 9 years), and I have never had my computer compromised by one, but I just thought I would throw that in there.

OK! Let's start this update with the newest FREEWARE, and FREE online services available!

The FREEWARE programs and services of the month is (DRUM ROLL)...

Free Youtube (or any flash .FLV video) to IPOD converter by DvdVideoSoft

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

I am biased with selecting this as my first great FREEWARE program. I have an IPOD. I use it everyday at "MY REAL JOB". Music? Sure, but I also use it for more then that: Podcasts, Photos, and videos. I get free movies, and sports downloaded to my computer. For example the Giants amazing Superbowl is (or was if it was removed) on Youtube!. By playing it on Youtube, and when the whole video buffers to the Temp folder, I then copy and paste the .FLV file (video file) to a folder MY VIDEOS. I have the whole thing now! However, when you do this it won't play on an IPOD because the video is in a different video format. This program takes care of that, and fast. Just select the video you want converted, and select a folder to place the newly converted video, click CONVERT, and wait a few short minutes. When done, it is available to sync to your IPOD.Ahhhhhhhh, but you ask... What if I have a video that is not a Youtube or .flv (flash) video. How can I convert AVI, MPEG, RM, DIVX, ASF, VOB video files to IPOD? Here is a freebie that can do that too...

Jodix

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

Jodix will convert almost any type of video into a format that will play on an IPOD (MPG4). Now my favorite movies I take with me for those moments when I am stuck somewhere (Doctor's waiting room, or what have you). This program is so simple to use even a caveman can do it (Ooops, I think I just stole that line). Just pick the video on your computer to convert, and pick a folder for the newly converted version to be placed into, and click CONVERT. In a few minutes you are done. TIP: Turn off video monitor so you don't see the movie as it is converting. This way the program converts the video much faster. This program can also convert Youtube flv videos to IPOD, but I like the results better in the first program.

Xdrive

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

Over recent months I have been asked for such a free online service as Xdrive. Imagine the situation: You have hundreds of photos on your computer, as well as many MP3s, important documents, emails, important files, and folders. One day you are working and your computer dies! No, not just locked up, but died! A hard drive failure! All those items are lost! right? Well, not if you had Xdrive. Xdrive is a FREE online hard drive to back up such important data. They give you 5 gigabytes free. It is also easy to use. If you have an AOL messenger (AIM) ID, then you can use that (AOL owns Xdrive), but if you don't, you can join Xdrive anyway. You could even upload a huge file, let's say 100 megabytes, and go visit your Aunt Nelly. On her computer you can access your Xdrive account and your file is there, or wherever you are. Store your MP3s on Xdrive freeing up valuable disk space on your computer, and you can even use the Xdrive player to play them without downloading them back! Have files you want to share? Make a folder public so others can download or listen from it. You can even run scheduled backups! A true hard drive, but online... and FREE!

VisDir: Free disk space finder

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

There are people who have huge hard drives, but fear installing anything on them. They think that putting on a few programs will take up so much room, their computer will slow down. There are other people, people like me, who put hundreds of programs, photos, MP3s, etc., on their hard drive and in time panic they don't have much room left. This program is for both types of people. This handy visual tool will show you what folders, and/or files are taking up the most room, and all the folders and files that don't. I just used this two weeks ago to help me find what is taking up so much room on my 80 gig hard drive. Having only 9 gigs left! This program showed me that my MP3s and videos are hogging so much room. It also showed me a bunch of programs I installed that I rarely use that takes up way too much room. Hence, I uninstalled those programs, and transferred my MP3s to other sources, such as Jump drives, online, and burn in data form onto a CD (actually a bunch of CDs). Now my computer has so much room again! YAY! This programs is great just so you can see what is where, and how much room everything takes up. The downside? It needs to scan your computer before it can give you a graphical representation. This takes about twenty minutes (or at least it did on mine). Once done, you can view your information in a pie chart. Click on the section to see the sub folders, and even go right to the folder in EXPLORER by clicking the Explorer button. You can also view the information in a bar chart. A great program to keep around for seeking useless programs, or files, and a great way to see your hard drive.

ThreatFire: Anti Virus and malware addition to any Anti Virus program you have

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

This free security program is not to replace the antivirus program you have, but to work as an added layer of protection. Why? A traditional antivirus program such as Norton's, or Mcafee will detect something wrong after it installs, then warns you about it, or finds it when you run a scan. Still bad things fall through the cracks. When a virus, malware, rootkit, Trojan, spyware gets through, and tries to do something, ThreatFire kicks in and stops it. Stops it cold! Then tells you about it, and that you are safe. Running two anti virus programs can, and will slow your computer down to a crawl, but Threatfire is not a traditional anti virus program. It was made to aid what you already have, and take up little RAM memory doing so. Sure, in the past I have touted free anti virus programs, and free anti spyware programs, and I will revisit those programs in later updates to this site. For now, those of you who pay for their programs, or even use the ones I have suggested in the past for free, all would benefit from ThreatFire. You see, an anti virus program will not tell you if suspicious computer behavior is happening. It won't tell you a program is replicating itself, or trying to access the internet without you knowing it. ThreatFire will. You can even run a scan with ThreatFire as you would with your traditional anti virus program adding another level of checking for trouble. Threatfire comes in a FREE and a Paid version, but the Free version is fully functional. It updates daily, and the only real difference is you don't get phone support. There are other minor differences too (two actually), but they are too insignificant to mention. The FREE version does it all.

Photofiltre: Photo editing software

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

A blast from a past update. Free programs are fun! To see what you can have for free, when others spend money? I love it! This is one of my favorite freebies, so I figured since I am kicking off a new theme for my web site, why not re-visit one of my favorite freebies. Photofiltre is for everyone! We all have pictures, digital photos, and scanned photos. This program I have used to take the red eye out of pictures, resize the photos, enhance the focus, or color, repair old photos from cracks and scratches to perfect. This is a great free program. I can't say enough about it. Just taking a picture and playing around with it is fun. and the help and support is amazing. It is a whole community of users to turn to if you need to know how to do something! What program does that for you!? You can even download (free) more add-ons to make it do even more! The special effects and filters are incredible, and the drawing tools are easy to use. This program is top quality.

Movies-On-Demand: Watch movies online for free

Click here to go to their site and check it out!

In all my updates I will be highlighting a site that is pure entertainment. With all these sites I recommend viewing them in the Mozilla Firefox free browser. Also, update your Flash (which all computers usually have, if not you should), and also download the free DIVX web player. Not all sites use the DIVX web player, but many do. As well as not all sites use a flash player, but many do as well too. Many play better in Firefox. I will provide the links to these 3 items below. As for the movies (and many with TV shows too), all you do is find the movie, click on it, and you will be taken to the site that hosts it. I don't offer the direct movies here. They are hosted on other sites (too many), but it goes like this...Let's say you wish to watch National Treasure. Find the National treasure link from the movie from the site I highlight and click on it. You will see another site load. Depending on the site, this will determine what type of player it will use for you to view. The movie itself may be all in one link, or divided up into several parts. After watching Part 1, you would obviously simply click on part 2 to continue the movie. Most movies load uninterrupted. However, few load slow. If this happens, click on pause and wait a few minutes, then click play again. This will allow the site to buffer the video to your temp files where it actually is playing from. Again, this doesn't happen often. Most movies out for a few weeks, or 6 months are DVD quality (You can make your movie full screen too). However, some newer movies are nothing more then a digital video cam in a theater complete with lower quality, peoples heads in the way, and sometimes even hearing the audience laughing when appropriate. It is up to you if you want to watch such movies. I recall Spiderman 3 was like this the first week it was in the theaters. At week two it was replaced by a DVD quality link. TV shows are normally always DVD quality (I like Scrubs haaaaaaaa). Watch an entire season in an afternoon of your favorite show if you wish. If you select a movie, or TV show, and it doesn't play? Usually it means the link was removed for obvious reasons. Just go to another site such as nabolister.com and you may find several alternative links for the same movie. Another frustrating warning is the damn ads! Many of these sites have a full page ad that pops up stopping you from viewing the movie before it starts. When this happens, wait for this intrusive ad to stop loading, then on the upper right of your monitor you will see a button that says SKIP AD. Click that and you will be returned to your movie page.

NOW THAT'S AN UPDATE!!!!!!

I hope you enjoy this new theme I will be providing. I hope my life gets to be less complicated and I can do this as often as I want to. For now, enjoy. Check here each month, or every few months for what is new. This update is huge! It is basically for the next three months, and being Summer is a time for fun I thought I would include more fun stuff, freeware, then ever before! Oh yes, and even something for your web site creation. Let's get to it shall we?

FREE WEB SITE RELATED SOFTWARE...

I love Web site editors! and free ones at that! In the past I have offered several great free web editors. One that I have used, and has always been one of my favorites is First page 2000. Well, they have released a while back a great new one! First Page 2006. I was hesitant to try it. After all I loved the 2000 version. So I downloaded it, and I am using it now I am so pleased with it, and frankly amazed by the power of it's features that I am upset with myself that I didn't get it sooner. If I recall correctly though, when I saw it in 2006 I could have sworn it was not free, but it is now. I am still evaluating it, but so far I believe it is the best editor I have used so far. It is a beautifully designed program. Just take a look at some of the features:

Tag Insight with SmartHistory™
CSS Insight with SmartHistory™
CSS Class Support & Auto Detection
Advanced Syntax Highlighting
Tag Document Selection Tool
Dual Preview Engine
Online Webmaster Tools
Tag Property Sheet Inspector with SmartHistory™
Tag Auto Completion
Design View Engine, Powered by Microsoft®
Anti-Intrusive Real-Time Visual Source Rendering Engine™
Dual Edit System
One Click Html Reference Guides
Asset Management
Extensive Web Language Support
Tidy HTML Power Tools (updated)
Document Checking Tools
iScripts™
Page color themes
Popupmaker Deluxe
Image Mapper
CSS Style Sheet Designer
Scrollbar Designer
Powerful Server Side Includes Support
Sitetree/ Link Checking Tool
Analyze Document/Page Estimation Tool
Extendable Toolbars and Interface
Interface Designed for All
File Management Tools
Image Thumbnails
Rollover Images
Internet explorer preview integration
Netscape® Mozilla preview integration
Powerful, Enhanced IDE Interface
Powerful FTP client
Extended Find & Replace In Files
Photo Album Gallery Generator

NOW THAT'S AN EDITOR! You can read more about it, and download it from: Evrsoft First Page 2006 Home page

FREE NON WEB SITE RELATED SOFTWARE...

Now it is time to throw in something that will save you loads of money, and time from going to a store to buy a program... any program! What do you need or want? A program for your web site? Perhaps a program to make your computer run faster? Security programs? Entertainment programs? Graphic programs? Word processors? Browsers? Well, how about a site that offers hundreds of free programs in all types of subjects? Download one program and think of the money you saved by not going to the store. Download a dozen? and WOW! Now that is savings! The site is called Snapfiles. Just go to this link: Snapfiles Freeware page and check out the vast menu of free programs. Even if you find just one, it is worth it, but when you see all that are available I am sure you will get loads of 'em!

FREE NON WEB SITE RELATED SOFTWAREPart Two!...

I told you this was gonig to be a huge update! It has to be if it is for a three month term. So after giving you a way to get hundreds of free programs, how about a way to get you hundreds of free game demos, plus free full games, all from the same site! The site is Gamershell, and the amount of downloadable free demos of new and old games are amazing! When you are on the site you will find the main menu on the left. Select either: Demo Versions, or Full Games and enjoy. I strongly suggest you have DSL or a Cable modem. A dial up would take years to download some of these. Go to: Gamershell Make sure you are downloading for PC, and not Playstation, or XBox, etc.

FREE ONLINE SERVICES...

This issue of free online services is not web site related, but just plain fun for the summer. Downloading music without paying for it is illegal right? Uhm... I said RIGHT? OK! But listening to it is not illegal. How about a way to listen to any song you want right when you want to hear it? Rembmer Napster? They really started this whole thing about illegal downloading. Well they are back, but they added a twist. A legal twist. Now you can go to Napster and enter an artist or band (such as ohhhhhhhhhhh let's say Pink Floyd) You will see several choices, but the fist is usually the one you want. Click on that, and just about every Pink Floyd song you ever heard of will be listed. Click on the left next to one you want to hear, and a player will pop up on it's own, not yours, but theirs, and begin playing the song. If you want to get into really getting music legally for free, it is not illegal to record what you select using a program like Audacity (also free) that can save it as an MP3. Just like popping in a cassette to record the radio on your own home stereo for personal use... legal, and free. Or just listen to all your favorite songs without making your own MP3s. What a great service. The link to get their that I will list in a moment is actually for Pink Floyd, just so you can see what I am talking about. When there simply just type in the search box who you want to listen to, then as I said, select the first choice that is listed to populate all the songs by that artist or band. Don't go to napster.com though. Instead go to this link: napster free listening

FREE ONLINE SERVICES Part two...

Last update I mentioned a site to play free movies. Well, I have found a better one! Simply called TV LINKS, but it also has movies and cartoons. I just watched well, maybe I shouldn't say in case it is illegal haaaaaaaa, but what I will say is there is no downloading, it just plays when you click on the title. This is called streaming video. This is a very good movie site, and TV shows too. Here is what you do, you select TV shows, movies, cartoons or one of the other choices. Select from the list what you want to watch. When you click on it, another page will open. On this page you will see if the Movie is one link for the full movie, or divided up into parts (Part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.). When you select the link to start playing you will see in the middle of the black screen a white arrow. It may start on it's own, if it doesn't then click the white arrow. Just go to:TV LINKS Home page

If you have any questions or comments concerning any of my Freebies Of The Month, or any freebies on my site, please feel free to contact me, I answer all e-mails. The program is HTML FONT COLORIZER, and it does just that, but not what you may think. What I mean is you may already know how to make a word, or a sentence, or even all your text a particular color. However, there may be a time you wish to write a bunch of words or a paragraph where every single letter is a different color. To write that code, you would have to tag every single letter it's own color. That is a tast so time consuming, you may just say "Oh heck with it", and leave the color black, or asign it just one color, but feel like you gave up on a idea that you thought you wanted to do. Enter HTML FONT COLORIZER. So simple to use, no directions is needed. Simply type in what you wish, select the colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, etc. and grab the generated code and inser it into your web site. DONE! and you saved enough time to get some well needed rest, or at the very least, time to watch TV! lol. Just go to: HTM FONT COLORIZER and get this handy program free for when you ever need it.

FREE NON WEB SITE RELATED SOFTWARE...

To help keep a computer running like new, and fast, it is important to do many things, not just one. A few you may know of is to defrag your hard drive after you add, and delete many files, and programs after time goes by. You may also know to clean your temp files, and empty your recycling bin. Why they call it recycling bin is beyond me, you don't recycle anthing, you delete it! Regardless, over time your computer may get slow from other causes. Sometimes Windows gets slow because of the registry not being correct or it could be defragmented itself. Or other Windows problems. This program, Advanced Windows Care it great! It will scan Windows for errors, and fix them for you! Nothing for you to get a headache over, just check off what to scan, then click the scan button, wait a bit until it is done scanning, then click the invdividual result and fix, or just click the Care button to fix them all in one shot. For a free program it works great, and a fixed Windows runs faster then a broken one. Or at least a Windows that is laced with errors. Go to: ADVANCED WINDOWS CARE free version and run it about once a month. Here is a list of what it can do...• 100% Freeware • Removing Spyware and Adware • Preventing Security Threats • Privacy Protection • Fixing Registry Errors • Temporary Files Cleanup • Startup Cleanup • Repairing Windows • Speeding up System

FREE ONLINE SERVICES...

I must confess that even though I love providing free web thingys, I love the free online services, because most are just plain fun. I enjoy them so much that in this installment I am including two totally different free online services. One isn't really a service in the true sense of the word, but the other is, well maybe not that one either haaaaaaaaa, but both are fun!

Let me take the FREE movies, and TV shows first. No, not illegal, no downloading, no joining, just click, and it starts! I know on this very page in the upper left I discuss watching free movies on Winamp, and I still do, but this is different. These are web sites that offer hundreds of movies or TV shows as links. Just click on the link and the movie will begin in seconds. It buffers a copy of the movie to your temp files (usually), and it plays from there. This is called streaming video. Although not all streams leave a copy in your temp files. Sometimes the movies are in parts. A link may say FULL MOVIE so you just click once. Other times a link may say Part 1, part 2, part 3, etc. You can view the movie in full screen or resize it to a smaller box. I enjoyed the movie 300 this way, as well as Employee of the Month, Rocky 6, and dozens more. Even my favorite TV shows. There are dozens of sites that offer this, but I am only going to mention one here, because it is the best I have found so far. However, before I do I want to issue a warning. The site, while offering great titles for free does have ads on it not for children. Even though you may want to watch A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, ICE AGE 2, or a number of family orientated films, I suggest you go to the site, find the movie to watch, click on the link, and when the movie begins in seconds then have younger eyes watch the movie, and not before.

Another thing worth mentioning is some links do not play. If this happens just find a movie that does. These sites try very hard to have 100% of the movies play, but sometimes the movies are removed before the site is aware of it. This is because these are just links to other sites that have the streams, and the movies are not stored on the main sites themselves. Some movies are great quality, and clear, some are not, but all are free. Enjoy.

The one site I am going to mention is Nabolister When there, there are 18 pages of movies (click on the bottom of the short movie list to see ALL MOVIES), or choose TV Shows instead of movies. When you click on a movie link you wish to watch you will see another page. On this page is the link FULL MOVIE or the movie in parts. If it is in parts, when each part finishes, just X out, and click the next part. If a trailer is playing on this page, click the pause twice or watch it, and then click the movie links. You will now what I mean when you see it, tough to explain, but easy when there.

FREE ONLINE SERVICES Part two...

This next FREE online service you can incorporate into your web site if you wish. If not? It is still fun to do for anyone for any fun reason. They are free sign generators. One being on my home page. Just click on the sign you want to generate, type in some fun stuff, then click the create button or whatever it is called, and the picture is created for you looking like a real sign. Below are a bunch of fun ones so you can get an idea, but there are many, many more. I couldn't wait for March to come to enter more Freebies, so here it. Enjoy! If you missed any, be sure to check out the archives. I am pleased to highlight a great free service Free Find, a wonderful free program ColorMania, and an amazing free firewall Zone Alarm.

Visit the Freebie of the Month page to see these highlighted freebies along with detailed descriptions, and sample graphics. The links will be there for you too. Actually just click on the graphic and you will be taken to the products company to read even more about them, and download them for your needs.

Taking Free Find first, I want to draw your attention to the top of this page. You will see the Free Find search box. This is not your typical Yahoo, or Google Internet search box, although Free Find can do that if it is checked to do so. The reason why you may wish to have Free Find is because it can be used as a search engine just to search your pages of your web site. If you have several pages a visitor may wish to see if your site includes something they have in mind. Perhaps you sell widgets on your site, and they want to search all your pages that mention a certain type of widgets. So, they type in widgets, click enter as with any search engine, and Free Find displays all the results were widgets are included on your site. The result page is much like a Google, or a Yahoo search result page. You can even design it to look like your site so the visitor has no idea they left your site when on the result page. Click a result, and that page of yours pops right up for them.

Free Find has a few more features you may find valuable to you. First of all, when you sign up for Free Find, you will want Free Find to crawl (spider) your site. If you change your site a minute later? No big deal, just have them crawl it again. Unlike other site search engines that only allow you one crawl a month, Free Find allows all you need. And talk about statistics? Free Find will email you each month information of how many times your visitors used the site search engine, and what were the words they were searching for.

Give it a try up top in my search box to see Free Find in action. Type in something like Freebies, or free, or whatever you wish, and you will see the result page. This is one of the best free add-ons you can do for your site.

This months web-related free program is ColorMania. There are many freeware color pickers out in Internet land, but this one is the best, and most simple to use. The need arises for a color picker when you are trying to match a color in your web site when you are creating something else and want it to match identically. Sure, you could eye it over, guess the color, lord knows I have many times, but never did it right. It would always be a little off in shade, or color. Enter ColorMania. Simply click and drag the eye dropper icon and move it to the color you wish to match. Then copy the color code into your HTML document and there you have it, and exact match. What could be easier?

As for this month's freebie for the month for the category of Non-web related program? I have chosen Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm is the best FREE firewall there is. Not only is the program free, but you never have to pay yearly 30 bucks or so, just to update it like you do Norton's, or Macafee. It is free forever. Nothing gets through Zone Alarm, and nothing leaves unless you give it the OK.

I must install Zone Alarm on peoples computers for them, about (thinking) ohhhhhh, 6 times a year. The scenario is always the same. They buy a computer, but the firewall, and anti virus only has a 3 month trial on it. After the 3 months are over, they are expected to buy the program, and each year buy it again, and again, and again, endlessly. I then uninstall them, and put on Zone Alarm (and AVG anti virus, lasts months freebie).

Here is what you will happen if you download, and install Zone Alarm. After the installation, Zone Alarm will give you two choices. The choices are a 30 day trial, that when over you buy it, or the free version which is the same firewall less a built in anti virus program. Check the free version and that is what you get.

When Running Zone Alarm, the first week or so it goes through a learning process. For example, the first time you go online Zone Alarm will pop up a small box on the bottom right telling you that Microsoft Internet Explorer wants access to the Internet. Your choices will be DENY, or ALLOW. There is another added choice to whichever way you answer. When you answer you can check off Don't ask me again, or leave it blank to be asked each time. If your anti virus wishes to check for an update automatically, the window will pop up again asking you for permission. With each program as you start them this box will pop up awaiting for your answers. Once this is all done with in several days, you won't even know Zone Alarm is working for you behind the scenes, unless it blocks an intrusion. A similar box will pop up telling you an attempt was made, but you are safe. My Zone Alarm on the OVERVIEW page tells me I have had 185 intrusion attempts, and 183 of them were high rated! Oh, and did I mention all the updates are free too? Zone Alarm is a great firewall.

I also want to inform everyone reading this, that you may notice something strange all across the web. When you are on a site that has a flash button, menu, or any flash content, when you go to use it, it now says CLICK TO ACTIVATE. You never had to do that before. This is not your computer acting strange. Microsoft was in a law suit for illegally using a flash plug in to their browser. They lost. So that had to make it like that. It is annoying, but Microsoft is appealing the case. So if you go to use my flash menu, or any sites flash content you will see the annoying addition.

I still believe flash content is great, and this extra step, while annoying, is do-able for now. Let us hope Microsoft wins their appeal.

In addition to the new blogs on MySpace, and eBlogger (links at right, and below), I will soon have a new blog, which may be the last, uhm, or maybe even one more lol.

Http://www.xanga.freewebsiteservices.com. Blogs are a great way to get people to come and visit your site. Try one. They're FREE! This new blog is not yet active, but look for it soon.

I hope you enjoy the free web site service of the month, and also the free program of the month. It is so much fun for me to be back doing this after a long departure. Enjoy.

Sincerely,

P.S. As I have praised Freewebs.comfor free web hosting. It is the very same service that I use, and that you are reading this very moment. However, in the weeks to come I will be creating a new web site (still keeping this one) from none other then Microsoft! FREE! They give you the hosting free, the domain name free (a real domain name), 25 email accounts with your business name, and many tools to create your web site with them. I am looking forward to making this new site so I can review it, and report on it. Such as: build a Flash menu for your site fast, a Link Popularity checker, embed a video on your site, create an amazing 3d text logo for your site, place a chat program on your site so you, and your visitors can talk to each other in real time, allow your visitor to translate your web site into one of many different languages, Place a dictionary look up box on your page, and offer a REFER THIS SITE TO A FRIEND form. I will be adding on to my home page to even offer you more free services you can do immediately with my site. Just pick one or all, and work on it right from my site without leaving the page.

Free HTML Templates For Your Web Site...

(As always, if you go to my main web site http://www.freewebs.com/moswebsamples/ to see the Freebies in action. There you will see the Freebies of the Month page is actually made out of a free template.

You can choose from a vast amount of sites that offer free templates for your site, so you will be sure to find one that suits your style best. Some are more professional then others, but one thing they have in common is that they are all absolutely free. They are very simple to edit if you have moderate HTML knowledge and a HTML editor (Visit my ALL FREEBIES page to select a great free HTML editor if you don't already have one). Simply replace the images, and text with your own. That is all there is to it. All the tags, tables, and instructions are built right in template for you, but you can change them if you would like. The menu system is complete too. Just rename it, and link it to your pages. The free template used on my main site's Freebie of the Month page comes not only with a nice menu, but a nice mouse roll-over effect. This template came from HTMLTEMPLATES.NET, but simply go to Google, Yahoo, or any of your favorite search engines and type in - free HTML templates. You will find no shortage of web sites that offer them.

Free Web Related Software Program of the Month...

This months free web related software program is called Backlinks Master. Allow me to describe what this great program does. Let's say you exchange links with other web sites. You know you placed their link on your site, but as weeks, months go by, you can verify all these links on your site, to see if your link is on their site. Oh sure, you can check them yourself one by one, by why? Have Backlinks Master check for you, fast, and saving you time. If you have a link page with dozens, and dozens, maybe even a hundred or so links do you really want to spend the time to go to all of those sites to verify your link is there? It would take hours. This simple program takes no learning. It is just that easy! Just enter your home page URL address, and if you would like, enter other pages from your site too. Click the menu bar's selection PROJECT, then choose Search. Now all you do is sit back and have a cup of coffee, or whatever you wish (I suggest a nice bottle of Turkey Hill's Diet Green Ice Tea Ha!). In moments the list is populated, and you can see what sites have your link posted on their pages. This is a great way to verify. If you have a link on your site, but you do not see yours on theirs? Notify them that you discovered this flaw, (being kind), and ask them to correct the problem, or within a 30 day limit you will reluctantly remove their link from your site (all using kind words).

Free Non Web Related Software Program of the Month...

AVG anti Virus free edition is thought to be the best free anti virus program there is. Even going as far as being thought of as the best anti virus program free, or commercial. Yes, the program is truly free, and for a reason. They offer their program free to anyone for personal use on your home computer, or computers, because if you are in a position at work to suggest programs, you may suggest theirs. Your company would have to buy the commercial version. No, you do not have to be in a position like that to get it. It is for anyone, again, as long as it is for personal use. I have had Norton's, and Mcafee anti virus programs, but I chose this as my current anti virus program. With the other programs every year you have to purchase the right to update them for about 30 bucks a year. To me it is like renting a program, not owning it. With AVG anti virus you get top notch security, that updates daily, forever, for free. It runs in the background protecting you, and you can run scheduled scans, as well as scans whenever you wish. This program is so good, that commercial anti virus programs are losing big bucks due to this company (Grisoft). AVG is considered, not by me alone, but by all the PC magazines as the best anti virus program free or commercial! Just think about this: how much will it cost you to have your anti virus program for 5 years? Now, think of that money in your pocket instead! That should be enough to convince you alone. The only difference in the paid version versus the free version are minimal, such as support, but the protection is the same. The commercial version also has a firewall, but the best firewall in the world is Zone Alarm, and that is free too! (Next months freebie). The commercial version also has anti spyware, but the best anti spyware (actually there are a few great free anti spyware programs), is free too! So I say spend the money on something fun for yourself or on much needed bills. Get AVG anti virus free edition.

Next Months Freebies:

* FREE SERVICE: Add a site search engine that visitors use just to search your pages

* FREE WEB RELATED SOFTWARE PROGRAM: Color Picker to match colors exactly

* FREE NON-WEB-RELATED SOFTWARE PROGRAM: Firewall, and Free anti spyware scanner / cleaner

Free Web Builder, Code Validation, and media player

Martin O'Sullivan here again, and Happy New Year! This being only the 2nd month of this blog, and the revamping of my main site, and I am thrilled about them both. Along with a new MySpace blog too. As mentioned, I am revamping my main site, and it is coming along well. I have decided to add a 3rd Freebie of the month, each month. Along with the Free web related program of the month, and the Free Service of the month, I have decided to offer another Free program of the month. However, this 3rd addition will be for non web related use. Personal use if you will.

So, if you would like to know about ways to save money, big money each year by doing away with things like Anti Virus yearly subscriptions, or firewall yearly subcriptions of 30 dollars a year or so, then you shall be thrilled to see the best Anti Virus and Firewalls are FREE. Truly Free. The reason is they offer these for personal use in hopes you like them, and perhaps you are in a position to talk your company into getting the commercial version.

Or perhaps you would like to have FREE anti spyware programs that will find, and delete or quarantine the offending adware, or spyware. Again, the best ones are not ones you pay for, but free ones. I kid you not.

Or perhaps you are in the need to purchase Microsof Office that has many programs (A word processor called Microsoft Word, a presentation program, a spreadsheet, and more). You can go to any store and pay 80 bucks or more, the professional version goes into the hundreds! Or you can have an incredible FREE Microsoft capatable program that does all that Microsoft Office does, including opening and saving in Microsoft Office formats.

The list goes on, and on to include the best Media player in the world (Much better then Real Player, Quicktime, or Windows media player). In fact yesterday I watched the matrix on it for free online! Listen to Howard Stern on Serius Radio using this program ... FOR FREE instead of paying ten bucks a month for Serius. Even play your MP3s, CDs, and more.

You will enjoy many utilities to increase your computers RAM memory, automatically fix Window problems with a click of the mouse, Make your computer into 4 seperate Desktops! All FREE! Clean your tracks from surfing on the Internet, it is all FREE!

Child safety programs, and keyloggers so you can see what, and where you children go online without them knowing it!

Free Desktop Publishers

Even FREE Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo 64 emulators to temporarily turn your computer into them, and get the games for free too! Just yesterday I played a Nintendo 64 new game right on my computer! (My son showed me this trick lol).

Free programs to make CD or DVD labels along with their case covers and back jackets.

Even a FREE program that will take anything you cut and paste and read it back to you in a human voice, not a computer robot voice!

Free Photo Editors

Free Screen capturing programs

Free Browsers better then Internet Explorer, and free File managers better then Window Explorer.

Free audio programs to make your own MP3s, and free programs to rip your CDs so you can have them on your computer, or MP3 players.

If I go on about this, the list would be from your head to your toes. So, check back each month for these freebies of the month, or go to my main site and check out the GO TO FREEBIES page.

Again, Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Martin O'Sullivan

As for the freebies of the month? I strongly suggest you go to my main site (Link is above), and see them there. However, a quick description is here for you now:

A true WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) web site maker by WEB BUILDER.
Just drag and drop text, pictures, and do everything you can do with a HTML editor. This is great for those who do not wish to learn HTML code, as none is needed with this program.
Go to my main site for more details, or click on this link and visit them. WYSIWYG Web Builder's home page If you want this program, at their site, click on the download link, then move all the way down and download the OLDER VERSION. The newer one is not free, but there is little difference in the two, and the older version does everything.

The FREE Service of the month is from CSE VALIDATOR. To see this freebie in action, you must go to my main site. This free service will check your web site for coding errors, show you where they are, and what they are, and even tell you how to correct them. THAT IS SO COOL!

and for the free none web related program for personal use...
The best media player there is. Better then Real player, Quicktime, and Windows Media player.
It is winamp. You can download the free none bundled version at http://www.winamp.com You will have 4 choices. Again, download the FREE none bundled version. With winamp you will enjoy your MP3s, CD,s movies, real TV shows like the Simpsons, Internet radio (even howard stern.) All free.

Free custom text logos, and water effect

Hello, and welcome. My name is Martin O'Sullivan. This is an introduction to what I do for people that have their own web sites that they made for business or other purposes. This blog is new, and in the coming days will have much more in it to what I am explaining now. My goal is to stop people for paying what they can get for free, and end up with an amazing site for their visitors to view. I ask for nothing in return. Not even a thank you, haaaaa. If you use just one free service, or save money by getting one free program? I have succeeded.
I have been helping people for a few years now find ways, FREE ways, to add wonderful, and amazing FREE services, and special effects to their web sites. My own web site has the examples each month with a Free service of the month, and even Free program of the month.I have decided to add blogs as another tool for people to find my site, and decide if they wish to add one or several of these free services to their sites. Or perhaps find a free program that is web related, or even not web related.

Allow me to explain what I offer, and keep in mind it is all free. Not just the services I find, or the programs, but I charge nothing as well. Totally free. It is more than a hobby, it is a passion of mine to help people turn their sites from a basic plain site to an amazing site.
To give you a taste of what you will find on my site:
* Free site search engines to add to your site, just to search your site by a visitor.
* Free services to create amazing titles, and logos
* Free web mail forms for your visitors to contact you.
* Free phone numbers you can use for voice mail by your visitors.
* Free chat programs you can insert in your site to talk directly to your visitors
* Free service to have your own newsletters mailed to your visitors.
* Free scripts for many special effects, such as falling leaves over your site for fall, or snowflakes, scrolling movable text, slide show for photographs, embedded video players, fade from one of your pages to another when a menu choice is selected, and hundreds of other scripts even more amazing then the last.
* Free Flash intros with no need to know Flash.* Free animated Flash, and HTML menus.
* Free HTML editors to do your own code, or even for those who don't know HTML code? Free HTML WYSIWYG editors (Just type, and insert pictures easily)
* Free programs for any topic for you, your children, anyone. for business, entertainment... anything. (Great media players, system utilities, communications programs, business programs... Anything)* Free button creators.
* Free templates
* Free polls
* Free bulletin boards
* Even Free advice with HTML coding
* Free flavicons (those little graphics you see in some big companies address bars)
* Free Flash audio you create of your voice, or music that people can hear on your site.
* Free "Send a friend our site" forms for visitors to relay your site to someone they know.
* Free games you can add to your site to play right on your site.
* Free counters, visible or invisible to keep track of your visitor count.
* Free services to collect money such as Paypal
* Free service to translate your site into dozens of different languages to make your site truly international.... and literally hundreds of Free services that are too many to list.

Oh, did I mention all this FREE? Haaaa. Well, it is. All of these are out there, nothing to join, subscribe to, or sign up for. Just go to the site that has it, get it, use it. Simple as that.
An example would be if you wanted your site to have a menu that moves when the mouse is on it, or change color. You could use the typical menu with text (Home, about us, etc) or have a beautiful animated menu that flips when selected. Is it hard to do? No. Just go to the link in my site, fill out the information of the name of the menu button, and what page it will lead to on your site, generate the code, insert it into your site... Done, and FREE.

The example site is also being reconstructed to be more fluid, and simple. Doing so, I have removed many services temporarily to be resurfaced by links, and examples. I hope to complete the new site within days. However, you can still visit my site to see some goodies. All that you will see that actually makes up my site are the same freebies I offer, and many more. I would be a hypocrite if I paid for a site and services, then told you about free ones to use for yours. Even the hosting of the site is free.

In closing I wish to say that I hope in the coming days as this blog, and a few other blogs are created, and filled in, and the main site is refurbished, you check back to see what you can put on your site for free.
See ya soon :o)Sincerely,

FREE WEB SITE SERVICE OF THE MONTH

2Being this blog is new, I thought I would throw in a past free service for this month. One of my favorite free services at that. Also, since the free program of the month is about what to do with a text title, or logo (or any photo for that matter), this service offers great title logos that you can design in seconds. The the web site is called Cooltext Graphics Generator, and allows you to make great text logos, or buttons for menus or other needs. This is one of the best, if not thee best free service for this. On my main site you will see my text logo banner. Cooltext made it for me in seconds. Just go to: http://cooltext.com/Default.aspx and select a style (I select for mine BLEND). You then can pick the colors to be used, the fonts to be used, and more. Just click when ready, and you get the banner to be copied and pasted, save to your hard drive, and insert it in your web site. Besides my own title logo on my site, I use this free service for buttons on other sites I have made. If you would like to see an example of these buttons go to: http://safekidshaven.org/ and you will see 4 I made in various colors (red, green, blue , and orange). I have used other services for these needs, and I have found this is by far the best, and easiest to use.

FREE PROGRAM OF THE MONTH
This months free program is amazing. Turn your title/logo from a stagnet non moving photo graphic into a fluid water ripple title/logo. This FREE java applet can be made easily with the free program that is offered for download by ANFY. I rate this FREEBIE for intermediate web masters, not beginners, but beginners are welcome to try and use it too. On thier site you will see two free programs to download. Choose the Anfy (Java) download button. Then when installed, open it, and check off Image effects, and select WATER. They offer 52 amazing FREEBIES with this one program, but I think the water effect is amazing enough for now. If you succeed? Go for the others if they interest you. The URL is: http://www.anfyteam.com/ I refer to their site to see their sample. Also after installing the program you will have a preview of each effect there too (Much better then the one on their site). I will be adding this effect to my main web site in the coming days for myself too.
